3-way shootout

This AI-LLM hair on fire moment is shaping up to be a battle polarized into those for and those against. I naturally fall in the against camp, because the LLM result in CJK profs not asking me to edit their papers https://quoteinvestigator.com/2017/11/30/salary/, getting them edited by LLM instead.

But Mark Dominus and Terence Tao, whom I respect and admire are for the LLM, which is a problem.

I also don’t like to be categorized, so I’m going to join the ‘run with the fox, hunt with the hounds’ camp.

Is that the ugly camp? That’s not the ugly camp. But, what is the ugly camp?

Following is a list of protagonists in the good team, antagonists in the (mostly) bad (or with strong reservations) team, and the ugly camp (with strong emotionally visceral reactions to the LLM and AI), and then websites in those three camps.

This is mostly just names of people (or sites) with opinions that I’ve come across and which I add to if they’re interesting, so is not a definitive list and is not in any way exhaustive.

I then add some evaluations.

The AI (possibly, relatively, or absolutely) bad team:

The AI ugly (joking, or jumping up and down, but is that the meaning of ugly?) team:

AI’s just trying to be helpful, but its bright ideas, presenting information you probably haven’t come across and approaching your topic from a different, unexpected angle, may or may not be so bright.
